In-Office Consultations

The primary goal of an in-office consultation is to improve your communication, especially in terms of bringing patients to acceptance of treatment. This makes your practice more productive, profitable and professionally satisfying.

Most consultations feature a team workshop designed especially for your practice. Graduates of the team workshop say: "We attend courses all the time. We are told what to say and do by speakers who don't know us or our patients. This workshop was great because it applied to ME. I learned what I do well and poorly, and got advice I can really use."

To target the session to both your practice philosophy and your team's training needs, development takes the following steps:

• Written questionnaires: Team members complete a brief questionnaire on the difficult communication situations they face, as well as how they currently manage them.
• Interviews: I talk with you and designated team members so you can share your insights.
• In-office review: After a review of the written materials of your practice, I visit the practice to see you and your team in action.

We structure a team workshop based on the practice review, blending in related issues from my national research. The content is targeted to your practice policies, local issues and particular patient services. The session covers what you and your team say they need to learn, such as convincing patients that quality care is worth the time and money, overcoming obstacles to treatment acceptance, or marketing the practice in writing or on the phone.

Team members leave the in-office workshop with better communication skills. And as you know, practices with good communication skills receive the benefits of patients who stay with the practice, understand and follow treatment advice, refer new patients to the practice, and feel satisfied with their care.
